The National Eczema Society will be raising awareness of the impact of eczema during National Eczema Week this year (9-16 September 2023). The campaign’s core objective is to highlight the misconception that eczema is “just itchy skin” and encourage people to have open conversations about eczema and how this affects their lives. We know that a number of Original Sprout customers and their family members are living with eczema and appreciate our natural soothing formulations.
What is eczema?
Eczema, sometimes known as atopic dermatitis, is a common skin condition characterised by inflammation, redness, itching of the skin and the development of small, raised bumps or blisters. In severe cases, the skin can become thickened and may even crack and bleed. It is a chronic condition that can affect people of all ages, but it is often first seen in babies and children.
What triggers eczema?
Eczema can be triggered or exacerbated by various environmental factors, including allergens (such as pollen, dust mites, or pet dander), irritants (like harsh soaps or detergents), hot or cold weather, sweating, stress, and certain foods. Identifying and avoiding triggers can help manage the condition.
Can eczema be cured?
Eczema is a chronic condition, meaning it tends to persist over time. It may improve or worsen periodically, but many individuals will have it for a long duration.
Eczema and Original Sprout
Original Sprout offers a wide range of hair and skin care products with natural and gentle formulations. We avoid the harsh chemicals, synthetic fragrances, and irritants commonly found in some mainstream skincare and haircare products that can commonly cause skin irritation. Milder formulas avoid stripping away natural oils and exacerbating dryness, while our moisturising products hydrate the skin without clogging pores or causing irritation.
We love receiving feedback from customers who have had positive experiences with our products:
This product is fantastic! After trying various ‘organic’ baby products that dried my baby’s skin, a friend bought me this. It’s the only thing that didn’t affect her sensitive skin, we don’t use anything else now. Started using it when my baby was 7 months old, now 15 months. It’s wonderful, smells gorgeous and leaves her hair beautiful, soft and shiny. I now use it too, and have bought it for my niece and nephew. Thank you original sprout!

I have such sensitive skin I had given up finding anything that didn’t bring me out in a rash until I discovered Scrumptious Baby Cream. I use it on my face down to my toes and it’s wonderful. I even noticed my husband using it recently!

While Original Sprout products can be beneficial for individuals with eczema, it’s important to keep in mind that everyone’s skin is different. Always consult your GP or healthcare professional if you have concerns about your or your child’s health. The National Eczema Society is an excellent resource for more information about living with eczema.
